Active Sections

Administrative Law

For members with interest in administrative law and procedure on both the state and federal levels. The Administrative Law Section provides a forum for discussion and exchange of ideas leading to the improvement and development of the fields of administrative law and procedure and agency practice. Members of this section serve the Kansas Bar in interpreting and carrying out the professional needs and objectives in these fields.

Agricultural Law

For members with an interest in agricultural law and related issues. The Agricultural Law Section promotes and develops legal standards for agricultural law contracts and disputes, and advances the practices of attorneys in the area of agricultural law.

Alternative Dispute Resolution

For members interested in advancing alternative forms of dispute resolution throughout Kansas. The section provides members with an organization for planing and promoting education programs; supporting and recommending legislation; distributing information through newsletters, bulletin boards, or other means of communication; and providing networking opportunities for ADR practitioners.

Appellate Practice

For members interested in promoting and developing continuing legal education programs devoted to appellate law, promoting interaction among Kansas appellate judges and practitioners, and those who wish to provide advice and basic education to attorneys who only occasionally practice in this area.

Bankruptcy and Insolvency

For members interested in bankruptcy law in Kansas. The Bankruptcy Law Section plans and promotes education programs; supports and recommends legislation; distributes information through newsletters, bulletin boards, or other means of communication; and provides networking opportunities for bankruptcy and insolvency law practitioners.

Construction Law

For members interested in promoting and developing continuing legal education programs devoted to construction law issues and legal standards for construction law contracts and disputes, and assisting attorneys who regularly practice in the area of construction law.

Corporate Counsel

For members serving as in-house counsel and those in private practice engaging in the corporate practice of law. The Corporate Counsel Section tracks relevant legislative actions, offers a forum for exchanging ideas, and provides continuing legal education for and networking opportunities among its members.

Corporate, Banking and Business Law

For members interested in corporation, banking, and business law issues and practice. Members plan and promote education programs; support and recommend legislation; distribute information through newsletters, bulletin boards, or other means of communication; and provide networking opportunities for corporation, banking, and business law practitioners.

Criminal Law

For members practicing or interested in the area of criminal law. Members of the Criminal Law Section work to foster and maintain the integrity of the criminal justice system in Kansas; to advance the knowledge and understanding of criminal law through lectures, seminars and publications; and to foster the protection of individual rights and the improvement of criminal law, its practices and its procedures.

Elder Law

For members interested in elder law in Kansas. The section plans and promotes education programs, supports and recommends legislation, distributes information, and provides networking opportunities for elder law practitioners.

Employment Law

For members practicing in or interested in the area of employment law. To this end, the section promotes, through the profession, healthy, meaningful, creative, fair and fulfilling employment relationships.

Family Law

For members interested in any aspect of family law and its practice and administration in Kansas. The section plans and promotes education programs; supports and recommends legislation; distributes information to the profession and the public; and provide networking opportunities for family law practitioners.

Government Law

For members serving the state or federal government or who work closely with governmental agencies. The section provides education programs, support for and recommendations of legislation, information, and networking opportunities for government lawyers.

Health Law

For members practicing or interested in health law. The section plans and promotes continuing education programs; supports and recommends legislation; distributes information; and provides networking opportunities for health law practitioners.

Immigration Law

For members practicing or interested in immigration law. The section brings together members with a special interest in immigration practice and more specifically, in the intersection of immigration law and other practices.

Indian Law

For all members interested in advancing the understanding, study, adoption, application, interpretation and improvement of tribal law, applicable state law, federal law and rules and regulations. The section works to understand and improve the relationships of these bodies of law and judicial and administrative systems and to encourage and support mutual respect for and understanding.

Insurance Law

For members practicing or interested in insurance law who want to further the development of the law in all its branches and formulate and extend the study of this field of law. Section members are engaged in efforts to attain uniformity with respect to both legislation and administration in all matters within the field of insurance law.

Intellectual Property Law

For members with a practice or interest in intellectual property law and a desire to further the knowledge of members in the law of patents, trademarks, trade secrets, copyright and licensing. The section's efforts cover matters of employee trade secrets and litigation practice as it relates to intellectual property. Members also promote education and improvement in practice in intellectual property law.

Litigation

For members practicing or interested in the field of negligence and compensation law. The section works to develop and advance litigation practice for its members and the legislation and administration of litigation law across Kansas.

Oil, Gas, and Mineral Law

For all members who practice or have an interest in the law related to the oil, gas and mineral resources of Kansas. Our section plans and promotes education programs; supports and recommends legislation; distributes information; and provides networking opportunities for oil and gas law practitioners. We are dedicated to promoting excellence in the practice of oil, gas and energy resources law in Kansas.

Real Estate, Probate, and Trust Law

For members practicing or interested in real estate, probate and trust law at both the state and federal levels. The section provides a forum, education opportunities, outreach, and the chance to participate in enhancing the application and administration of this area of the law in Kansas.

Religion Law

For members interested in religion law, including, but not limited to: religious freedom; individual rights; establishment clause matters; employment and housing discrimination; and issues involving religious institutions. The section provides members a space for learning about current issues involving religion law. This section also promotes a greater understanding of religion law through educational programs, newsletters, bulletin boards, and other opportunities.

Solo and Small Firm

The Solo and Small Firm Section is designed to support solo and small firm attorneys in the practice of law. This section works to enhance the skills of lawyers engaged in the general practice of law and to provide means where general practitioners may share their experience to improve their own practice, educate themselves and their colleagues, and improve the legal profession from this unique perspective.

Tax Law

For members practicing in or interested in tax law on both the state and federal levels. The section provides a forum for members to exchange ideas, improve the procedures and practice of tax law, and serve the Kansas bar and citizenry.

Young Lawyers Section

For new attorneys in Kansas, the Young Lawyers Section works to spark the interest of young lawyers in the objectives of the Kansas Bar Association and design and promote activities that will be of assistance to young lawyers in the practice of law. The section also advises the KBA Board of Governors in policies and programs that benefit new attorneys. If admitted in the past 10 years, members can join the Young Lawyers Section for just $10! Law students and new bar admittees receive a complimentary Young Lawyers Section membership.
