Welcome to Your Kansas Judges and the Judicial Survey Project

In 2023, the Kansas Bar Association Bench and Bar Committee created the Judicial Survey subcommittee with the goal of providing meaningful information to Kansans as they evaluate judges and justices for retention. This group developed a judicial survey based on the previous efforts of the 2016 Your Kansas Judges project.

The Judicial Survey Project is a non-partisan, non-political, educational project designed to inform the public about the judges' performance and qualifications. This initiative is proudly supported by the Kansas Bar Association, Kansas Bar Foundation, Kansas Women Attorneys Association, Kansas Women Attorneys for Freedom, Kansas Association of Defense Counsel, and the Legacy of Justice Foundation. Individual supporters include Whitney B. Damron, Rachel Pirner, Megan Monsour, and Katie McClaflin.

The Kansas Bar Association and its partners retained the University of Kansas Institute for Policy and Social Research (IPSR) to host the survey. IPSR conducted a comprehensive survey evaluating the performance of the Kansas Court of Appeal judges up for retention in the 2024 Kansas general election. We recognize and appreciate their diligent work in compiling these survey results.

The survey aimed to provide an objective assessment of the judges' effectiveness, impartiality, and professionalism based on feedback from Kansas lawyers. Surveys were distributed to more than 16,000 licensed Kansas lawyers. Survey respondents were asked to participate only if they had direct and personal knowledge of the judge’s qualifications during their current term of office.

We encourage readers to review these results carefully, along with other available information, to ensure a well-rounded understanding of each judge’s record and contributions to the judicial system. The integrity of our judicial process relies on an informed electorate. We are grateful to our partners and IPSR for their role in supporting Your Kansas Judges and the Judicial Survey Project.
