Membership Categories & Rates

Regular membership is available to any person of good moral character in good standing as a member of the bar of a state, territory, or possession of the United States. Regular membership dues are based on year of admission in Kansas.

Rates:

  • 5+ years — $285
  • 2-4 years — $130

Government employees must be a full-time city, county, state, Indian Country, or federal employee.

Rates:

  • 5+ years — $170
  • 2-4 years — $130

Paralegals/legal assistants may join the KBA and may participate in KBA annual meetings, sections, and committees, but as non-voting members. They also receive a subscription to the Kansas Bar Journal, can purchase handbooks and seminar papers at a discount, and can attend CLE seminars at KBA member prices

Qualification Standards for Paralegals/Legal Assistants Members

  • Standard I: Completion of an educational program for legal assistants which has been approved by the American Bar Association, or offered by an accredited institution which is in substantial compliance with ABA guidelines for the approval of legal assistant programs.
  • Standard II: Completion of a certifying examination especially designed for legal assistants.
  • Standard III: Completion of either of the following:
    • A baccalaureate degree and not less than one year of in-house training as a legal assistant; or
    • A minimum of five years of law-related experience under the supervision of an attorney, including at least one year of in-house training as a legal assistant.

Newly graduated students who have earned their juris doctor degree and been admitted to practice law in the state of Kansas in this calendar year automatically receive a FREE one-year KBA membership.

Student members enjoy all the benefits associated with regular KBA membership, except the right to vote in association elections or hold association office. Students may participate in KBA annual meetings, sections, committees, and CLE seminars. In addition, they receive an electronic subscription to the Kansas Bar Journal and can purchase practice handbooks and seminar papers at a discount.

  • Any law student is eligible to become a law student member and is automatically enrolled in the Young Lawyers Section.
  • Paralegal students are not eligible to be a Young Lawyers Section member.

Rate:

  • FREE

Inactive membership is available to lawyers whose Kansas license is inactive with the Kansas Supreme Court. Members who select inactive status receive full benefits except hold association office.

Rate:

  • $85

Retired membership is available to lawyers who are at least 66 years of age and retired from the practice of law. Members who select retired status receive full benefits.

Rate:

  • $85

Lifetime membership is available to lawyers who have been a KBA member for 50 or more years.
